Joe FRAIN

Retired Union firefighter of 31 years, Union alumnus, former US Marine Corps Reserve, father of two, and grandfather of four.

Longtime resident and retired Union firefighter Joe Frain has announced his candidacy for Township Committee, seeking to succeed outgoing Township Committeeman Joseph Florio.

Frain, a 31-year member of the Union Fire Department before his retirement in 2023, said his decision to run is rooted in a desire to give back to the township that shaped his life.

“Union has been my home for close to sixty years; it gave me an education, a career, and a place to raise my family. Now, I’m hoping to give back to the community that has given me so much,” Frain said. “After serving in the Fire Department for more than thirty years, I’m excited to take that same sense of service directly to the neighborhoods of Union by listening to our residents and earning each and every vote.”

Frain attended Connecticut Farms School and Kawameeh Middle School before graduating from Union High School in 1976. The following year, he entered the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He went on to serve more than 31 years with the Union Fire Department, where he also held leadership roles, including executive state delegate for Local 46 and vice president of the Union Fire Department Relief Association.

Frain and his wife, Ginger, who have been married since 1988, raised two sons in Union and are now grandparents to four.
